THE BROOKLYN CIRCUS + CHAMPION FOR TODD SNYDER

Founder of Brooklyn Circus, Ouigi Theodore focuses on urban apparel, hats, and shoes that sport a vintage feel. His clothing gets respect for its quality, and his attention to detail has found him collaborating with brands like New Era, and now Todd Snyder, and Champion for a collection inspired by boxing, and more specifically, Muhammad Ali.

Borrowing from the feeling that must have stirred the air at Fighter’s Heaven, while Ali trained there in the 1970s, Theodore created this boxing inspired collection that show a vintage sportswear feel, and take elements from Ouigi Theodore’s aesthetic like a 1920 logo that speaks to his grandmother’s birth year in tribute to her.

Todd Snyder did it again, he has a great feeling of making the best collaborations in fashion!

THE LIQUOR STORE "UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT"

My favorite go to in New York was always the Liqour Star by J, Crew, how suprised I was that it is under a new management and just a new one it becomes a Todd Snyder Store.

When Todd Snyder heard that there was a “FOR SALE” sign in the window of J.Crew’s Liquor Store outpost on the corner of West Broadway and White Street in Tribeca, he immediately picked up the phone and called its owner. Snyder worked for J.Crew when the brand first rented the space in 2008, and watched it become a gathering place for menswear enthusiasts from around the world.

“This place is special to me, and to menswear in general,” the fashion designer told the Cut before his store’s opening this week. It was a place for discovery, for like-minded people to gather and geek out over clothes — not to mention an architectural gem. When Snyder eventually decided to leave J.Crew in 2009 and launch his own label, the store’s success had a lot to do with it. “I wanted a chance to have my own crack at it,” he said.

The “FOR SALE” sign seemed to say that his chance had arrived. So he went straight to its owner — a third-generation New Yorker who still lives part-time above the space. He told her his plans to “keep it alive.” He wanted to preserve the integrity of the architecture, but also give the shop a new life. She approved. “For me, it’s always been about paying homage to something that’s original, but then upgrading it,” Snyder said of his aesthetic.

TODD SNYDER IS FINALLY HOME!!

Last week, just in-time for the Holidays, Todd Snyder opened his store in New York. The store's concept comes from Snyder's appreciation of London menswear shops that populate Savile Row and Jermyn Street and the fact that those purveyors of gentlemanly goods don't really exist in the states. Snyder also pulled aesthetic inspiration from himself, or rather his brand's four stores in Japan that have opened over the last two years.

And the home of Todd Snyder is certainly stocked, replete with not just the designer's namesake line of A+ sportswear, tailoring, and essential winter outerwear, but also his ongoing collaboration with Champion, his white hot Timex watches, an entire area dedicated to British wares (think: Globetrotter luggage, John Smedley knits, and Mackintosh coats including one excellent reversible waterproof denim version), a Moscot shop-in-shop, a massive selection of Aesop products, a full-time on-site tailor (with 30 years experience), a barber shop, and a coffee bar slash actual bar.

Todd Snyder is located at 25 Madison Square North in New York City.
