ALOHA CHAD - WELCOME TO HAWAII
After some days of fun in LA my next stop is Hawaii, Oahu to be exact.
Oahu is the third largest island and home of Duke Kahanamoku, the surf legend who made surfing populair and has it's own statue on the shores of Waikiki Beach. And what about Buzz's lunch and diner the favorite spot of Obama, oh man their burgers are delicious. On the island you can find one National Park, called Pearl Harbor, this is the place where Japan attacked the US and the beginning for the US of World War II. Very impressive is the monument for the USS Arizona which sunk with most of it's crew and is still laying on it's exact spot since the attack. Haleiwa is the village to start your journey to the North Shore, here on the North Shore lots of surf competitions are held. End your day with a Longboard beer from the Kona Brewery or a shaved ice from Matsumoto. Aloha!

CHAD ON THE BIG ISLAND, HAWAII
Spent some days @ The Big Island, driving around in a thoroughbred red Ford Mustang convertible. The Big island is well known for it's volcano's, coffee, macadamia nuts and "liquid Aloha" from the Kona Brewery. You can choose your color of beach, the island has a Green Sand beach, a Black Sand Beach, a Salt & Pepper Beach etc. The highlights on my trip where swimming with wild Spinner Dolphins and.......surviving a Tsunami.

LEROY GRANNIS - WAVECATCHER
These beautiful pics were taken by LeRoy "Granny" Grannis, born on August 12, 1917 in Hermosa Beach, California. He is called "the godfather of surfphotography. His book "Surf photography of the 1960's & 1970's" has the effect of a time capsule, bringing back an era where surfing became a serious sport.

SURF'S UP; BIG WAVES HIT HAWAII
Today some pretty nasty waves of 40 feet (9meters) and more hit the coast of Oahu's famous North Shore. High enough for an extreme surf competition the Eddie Aikau contest, which can only be held when wave heights are consistently 40 feet or higher. The competition is only held 8 times in the 25 years it has been held. The Winner will take home 55,000 dollars and the total purse for the competition is 98,000 dollars.
