This week I browsed through Iconic America, a rollercoaster ride through eye-popying panorama of American Pop culture.
What is America? It’s Monopoly and Mickey Mouse, but also Sinatra and Fred Astaire. It’s the Declaration of Independence, but it’s also Barbie and Playboy. This contrast of images reflects America’s unique style and the influence that the images of America’s pop culture have had on the world. This book works as a great treasury of Americana. Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and famous adman George Lois have crafted an enlightening book, searching American history to find over 350 people, symbols, and things of import. Their iconic choices are entertainingly presented through surprising visual contrast. Inspired by Tommy Hilfiger’s passion for Americana .
Last week I met Mr. Michael Bastian in Stockholm. He is a very relaxed and nice guy who is doing a collection of approx. 100 pieces for Gant Fall '10. The Gant by Micheal Bastian collection will hit the stores in August 2010 so we all have to wait for a while. Michael Bastian launched his label in 2006, before that he was for 5 years Men's Fashion Director for Bergdorf Goodman and worked for Polo Ralph Lauren, Tiffany and Sotheby's. He was nominated 2 years in a row by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA) for Menswear Designer of the Year. Check out his website for more info about his collections etc. www.michaelbastiannyc.com
At the end of the years 1940, wearied not to find a luminary adapted to his activity of general mechanics, Jean-Louis Domecq draws one of them.
After some trials and errors, the final drawing is fixed in April 1950. It perfectly corresponds to the requirement specifications fixed : simple, robust and articulated in order to adapt to all working stations.
Extremely from this beautiful invention, he will spend the years 1951 1952 to industrialize the production. In 1953, he creates a compagny dedicated to the marketing of his lamp and whose his initial will form
the name: Ji eL Dé. Now this French Industrial lamp is in a new and vintage condition a master piece in every room. They are far from being used just in a shed or a mill, they are a piece of "art". Check www.jielde.com for the complete collection.
Nigel Cabourn's Limited Edition Everest Parka is an exact replica of the very jacket created for and worn by Sir Edmund Hilary, one of the first climbers to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. The jacket features a cotton Ventile exterior for breathability and water repellency, French Goose Down for warmth, and a sheepskin rimmed hood. That's what we need now during these winter conditions.
The publisher of the MyFreedamn! books has released an incredible new book of Harley-Davidson Fashion. Commissioned by the Harley-Davidson Museum, Rin Tanaka raided their archives to produce THE definitive catalogue of all things Harley from 1910-1950.

WOW.....Found these great pictures on the site of Cafe.se a Swedish fashion magazine this is the Fall/Winter collection of Gant Rugger!! The guy with the beard is Christopher Bastin who is the Swedish designer of GANT Rugger. My Swedish isn't that good but I could read that the collection is build on a Nautical Theme and a Deer Hunter Theme.
