CHAD'S ROAD TRIP THROUGH THE SOUTH-WEST

I travelled through 4 different States, drove over 3250 miles, visited 11 National Parks, 4 State Parks

and 2 Native American Parks. Did a Hamburger contest and the Umami Burger won. Lost some money in a slot machine called The Hangover and I saw Las Vegas from above no not from a plane or helicopter, but from the New York New York Roller coaster. The highlight of my trip was a hike through Arches National Park, the hike was 8 miles, climbing over rocks and heaving the feeling that you walked on the rim of the world made this hike unforgettable.

NATIONAL PARK IN DECALS

As you all know, I love the National Parks and all what's linked to it.

These popular decals were given out at 12 National Parks when the entrance fee was paid, each featuring an animal, hence the term "Zoo Windshields". The stickers were so popular that visitors often asked if they could have an extra one. Due to the popularity of the decals and collections appearing on windshields they reduced the size of the decals in 1923. The use of decals as entrance tickets was discontinued in 1940. PENDLETON NATIONAL PARK BLANKETS, 1916-2011

PendletonWoolen Mill's series of National Park blankets are a celebration of the United States unique contribution to land use planning, the national park. The strong simple design of these blankets comes from the early frontier days of Indian fur traders and mountain men. Their labels from the 1920s to 1950s frequently were based on travel decals and luggage stickers used by the great national parks. I bought myself on my last trip the blanket of my favorite national park called Crater Lake (see the one above), and it keeps me warm during those cold nights.

NATIONAL PARKS OF AMERICA PART 1

 

I'm a big fan of the National Parks of America, and I will always visit one or more on my trips. Between 1935 and 1943 a special government project let American artists, all over the country make the above shown posters. They where used by the local Chamber of Commerce as a marketing tool to get visitors to the parks etc. They were not for sale. Due to their fragile nature only a few original posters have survived to this day. These rare images were rescued and restored by Ranger Doug.
