IAN BERRY AKA DENIMU - PAINTING WITH DENIM

Denimu (Ian Berry) is a British born artist currently based in Sweden. He creates artwork solely from denim; re-using jeans, jackets, and other denim clothing to create portraits, urbanscapes and other unique works. In 2013, Denimu was named as one of Art Business News "30 under 30" influential artists in the world.
Berry began experimenting with denim artwork while at university and then while working at TMW as an art director. His process involves cutting, stitching, and glueing various shades of denim to provide contrast and shadow. His works have featured Icon's of Denim such as James Dean and Marilyn Monroe.

TOMMY DENIM - PEOPLE'S PLACE ORIGINALS SS16

Recently, I met Kevin Payne at the Tommy Hilfiger Showroom in Amsterdam. Kevin is the director of Graphics and Branding at Tommy Hilfiger, but next to that he is a vintage geek and that's where it all started. The People's Place Originals capsule collection pays homage to People's Place, the first store Tommy Hilfiger opened as a teenager along with two friends in his hometown of Elmira, New York in 1969. It became one of the coolest hangouts in this small town. The People's Place Originals collection was first offered in Spring 2015, the seasonal collections are sold alongside Hilfiger Denim's collections.

For the SS16 collection, Kevin took his inspiration from the skate and surf scene of the West Coast. The cool and relaxed vibe of California, with places like Venice Beach and Santa Monica in the 70's. He found some great items at the Rosebowl flea market which inspired him to do some heavy washes on T-shirts and combine Hawaii print shirts with Army Jackets. It's a small capsule which contains as said sun faded Hawaii shirts, Army Jackets with patches, sun bleached T-shirts with surf prints and some beautiful selvedge denims of Italian fabrics. The collection is rich of details with special made People's Place buttons, hangtags etc. and even the showroom breaths a vibe of Venice Beach with some great vintage furniture, skate-and surfboards placed everywhere.

Be patient because the Tommy Denim People's Place SS16 Collection will be in store as of Feb. 2016.

(+) PEOPLE JEANS - LOOKBOOK SS 2014

Luca Bucari, started the brand (+) People in 2009, It was the triumph of indigo.
The first collection produced was a women’s collection, consisting of only 20 items including jeans and Texan shirts. The following season also the men’s collection was produced.

Clothing proudly designed and manufactured in Italy, following the principles that have made Italian tailoring first in its class around the world. The style is original and bold, with cuts that embrace your body with clean shapes and lines. Strength is denim, pure vintage. The garments are the result of processes that create an edgy worn effect that reminds you of the authentic character of an old pair of jeans. The design comes from a modern interpretation of famous models of the past, cult pieces collected over the years and stored as a source of constant inspiration.

STORE LOCATOR: VMC ORIGINAL - ZURICH

The shop was opened in 1986 by Markus Cadruvi and after a few years Roger Hatt, who owns together with his wife the shop today, joined the team. Roger began his career as a mechanic, but it was in the world of denim he found his passion. Back then, VMC used to have a small second hand area with vintage Big E’s and, as the first Japanese denim brand in the shop, Roger (who’s featured on the cover of the latest edition of The Heritage Post) introduced Evisu to the Zurichers 15 years ago. Today 40% of denim sales in the shop are based on Japanese jeans from brands like Iron Heart, Flat Head and Warehouse. VMC is divided into three sections, the latest being a women’s department. From cash register and the men’s shoe department you enter the sportswear department. The basement is dedicated to denim with an entire wall of indigo with all kinds of shades, washes, shapes and sizes. The basement is also where you find the extensive boot selection. Everthing is piled up and neatly folded. The shop the packed with vintage props like orignal Buddy Lee dolls. ATELIER LaDURANCE - LES BEAUX DE PROVENCE

Some 10 years ago a Dutch guy named Gerard Backx moved to the Southern France and founded a denim brand called Atelier LaDurance. I'm not sure if he named his brand after the river  la Durance which runs in that area. Being out of the picture for some season the brand is back on the shelves, still having it's DNA - The big square flap pockets, cross stitching, and the vichy pocket lining are just a few of the details that define Atelier LaDurance.
