SEERSUCKER....

Seersucker, the name comes from the Persian words "Shir O Shekar" which meant "milk & sugar", in regard to the textures - smooth and crinkled. The term later evolved in the late 18th century from sea sucker to seersucker. The texture is traditionally 100% cotton, the fabric's unique feel is created by a technique called slack-weaving which creates alternating tight and puckered stripes. The crinkles also make ironing unnecessary.  Seersucker is held from your skin, because of the way the tread bunch together. It's therefore a great wear in these summer days to come.

Here's a look at the new Ralph Lauren Flagship Store in Paris. The store has five floors and it carries the brand's complete collections, even a restaurant is located in the building. After 4 years of renovation, Ralph himself opened the store on the 15th of April. If you wanna walk through the same doors as Ralph, you need to call a cab to 173, Boulevard St. Germain in the Latin Quarter of Paris.

For Spring/Summer 2011 Michael Bastian will design his very first Womanswear collection, under the Michael Bastian by Gant label. It will be a complete collection of 54 pieces including knits, pants, outerwear, swimwear, tailored clothing and accessoiries. Eugenia, the PR-guru of Michael Bastian gave the New York press a first glimpse of the collection, on her a dress from the GANT by Michael Bastian collection.

THE NEW RECRUITS

 

Spending my time at the beach of Key West, I read this story about the new recruits, in the Esquire Big Black Book, Spring 2010. It's all about how three designers bring bold new ideas to brands with big pasts. There is a story about Alex Carleton for L.L. Bean, Alex also has his own brand called Rogue's Gallery. A story about Mark McNiary for Bass, who also designs for J.Press and his own label. And last, but certainly, not least Christopher Bastin for Gant Rugger. I learned to know Christopher as the shirtdoctor of GANT and from now on he is Mr. Gant Rugger for me.
