VATER & SOHN - A DREAM COMES TRUE

Last week I spent some great days in Hamburg, Germany and I had the chance to

visit a store called Vater & Sohn. I talked with Tobias Pflug. Together with Sascha and Stefan he made his dream come true.

It all started some 20 years ago when Tobias started to wear Red Wings, he was so fond of the brand that he started to work for the Red Wing store in Hamburg. The next step was to open a store where guys would like to go to have a coffee and find their needs. From the perfect shoe up to a nice Stetson hat. They found a great spot in a part of the city called Eppendorf, with brick walls ornamented ceiling and a great tile floor. The perfect place to start their dream. And a dream it is to work with brands like Red Wing, Tricker's, Wolverine, Rising Sun, Filson, Iron Heart and Gitman Vintage. Whenever you visit Hamburg go to the Eppendorferweg 54 to see it yourself.

NANAMICA SS 2014 - ONE OCEAN ALL LANDS

Nanamica the Japanese brand released a collection inspired by the ocean.

Lots of blue tones, very interesting is the blue camouflage print and what 

to say about the striped trench coat.

NIGEL CABOURN, THE INSPIRATION -THE JACKET

Last week I laid my hand on a navy blue jacket, not just a jacket but The Mallory Jacket in Harris Tweed.

The Mallory Jacket is a classic and exclusive Nigel Cabourn design, first introduced in the 2003 ‘Ascent of Cabourn’ collection. Based on jackets worn by the 1953 Everest expedition team, it was originally called The Sherpa Jacket and then The Tenzing Jacket after the famous Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who accompanied Sir Edmund Hilary to the summit of Everest in 1953. The jacket was renamed The Mallory Jacket in honour of George Mallory whose body was finally recovered from the slopes of Everest by the Mallory and Irvine Research Expedition, 75 years after his fatal attempt to reach the roof of the world in 1924.

Changes to the design and fit of the jacket have been made since the first ‘Sherpa’ jacket in 2003. The addition of Ventile® patches on the shoulders and arms relate more closely to the original images from the ‘Ascent of Cabourn’ book of a Sherpa wearing a similar woolen jacket. The button positions have also changed and in return provide better proportions and fit.

DOUBLE RL & THE LOVE FOR VINTAGE MOTORCYCLES

Surfing the net I found these great pictures of the Double RL, Soho store. They had some amazing vintage motorcycles on display in there flagship store from the turn of the century. Saying turn of the century means the 1900's. American bikes like an Indian and Harley Davidson, but also for me total unknown bikes like the Yale and Thor.

Thor motorcycles were made by The Aurora Machine and Tool Company, which began as a machine shop in 1886, providing forging, castings and parts for many bike manufacturers.

The history of Thor is closely tied to the history of Indian motorcycles.

The Yale motorcycle was built by the Consolidated Manufacturing Company based in Toledo, Ohio, after they had acquired the rights to the California motorcycle. The California is famous as the first internal combustion vehicle to cross the American continent in 1903.

I'M NOT A SOAPIE

Last saterday, I did some shopping in Amsterdam and paid a visit to Tenue de Nimes @ de Elandsgracht. And when I entered the store my eye was caught by a great collection of soap bars, soap dishes and more gifts for men. These soaps are from a brand called Izola Nyc.

Izola Nyc. was originally founded in 2007 by Neil Rasmus & Richard Brandt as a company that produced shower curtains. In 2009 they collaborated with Aesthic Movement and that's when they started to produce the perfect gifts for men. Products like soaps, candles, laundry bags, flasks, handkerchiefs and shoe brushes. Made with great care and attention to detail.

The soap bars are handcrafted and all on a vegetable base with the moisturizing benefit of olive oil.
