IT'S SHOWTIME....

The line in front of the St. Anthony's Memorial Gym
The Gym
The Press

The Models

This was one part of my trip where it was all about. The introducing of Gant by Michael Bastian, it took place in the St. Anthony's Memorial Gym on Thompson Street built in 1949. Same year as Gant was launched there is nothing such as a coincident. The guys had a lot of attitude an Michael Bastian hadn't a moment without a journalist or with a spotlight on his face. It was a big success.

WHAT A DAY.....

Cater Truck
Bryant Park, Fashion Week
My dream car
Earnest Sewn, Meat Packing
Old Village Hall on E 2nd & A street
Amoskeag XX, Orchard Street
Double RL, Prince Street

Hereby some highlights of my shop till you drop tour. Started with a "healthy" breakfast, no not from the cater truck but at Brooklyn Diner. From there I started my trip, which brought me to University Place, where Rugby is. In Bleecker Street, Meatpacking District, Soho, Nolita, East Village etc. I bought myself some stuff. For example 2 wooden boats at Old Village Hall, this shop belongs to Scott Hill, who is also working for Gant. I closed the night with a cheese steak at Heartland Brewery on 5Av.

TOUCH DOWN!

My first day started great. When I arrived, the sun was shining and it was just a little chilly. I walked from my hotel on 27th street to the Tommy Hilfiger Flag Store, where I had an appointment for a tour through the whole store. It must be said it's a wonderful store. The Store has 4 floors which are connected by a beautiful stair. At the top floor they have the only instore balcony on 5th. After that I joined for a nice diner with the Gant team from Stockholm in Odeon on West Broadway. As I said a great day!!

READY & PACKED!

Just finished packing for my trip to New York, which will start tomorrow. You don't know what kind of wheather you will have during such a trip so it's better to be prepared. Enough socks, underwear and clean shirts. No just kiddin' I just packed one bag, but I love those canvas bags!!! And as you see, you can't have enough of them.

SMITH & BUTLER, BROOKLYN

Smith & Butler—probably the only store in Brooklyn you can walk out of with a handmade Billykirk belt, a locally-crafted Hill-Side tie, and a vintage Moto Guzzi motorcycle—opened almost a year ago on Smith Street. The brainchild of screenwriter/producer Jay Alaimo and Marylynn Piotrowski, a former model who also runs the Montauk surf store Tauk, the shop was founded with a particular kind of guy in mind—one who's into amping up can't-go-wrong American staples with a shot of rebellious attitude (think James Dean, or Marlon Brando in The Wild One). The store runs brands like, Levi's, Barbour, Belstaff, Wolverine boots, Filson bags etc.  So for this store I have to go to the otherside of the Hudson, via the Brooklyn Bridge. No problem, it's on my list and some more shops in Brooklyn. See this weekend!!!

GANT RUGGER X TAKE IVY

The designers at Gant Rugger appear to have hit the books in preparation for the Spring 2010 collection. Or at least one book: “Take Ivy,” the 1965 Japanese photo book hyped to the max on the Web the past couple of years.
The sartorial motifs of “Take Ivy” abound in the Rugger collection, mixed and matched with colors changed. There are hooded rain slickers, shorts worn with white socks and loafers, skinny chinos with untucked oxfords, jeans with the pant legs rolled up, and canvas sneakers sans socks.

There’s also the wool and leather varsity jacket:
And the varsity windbreaker with striped collar and cuffs, worn with shorts:
And the hooded rain slicker, also paired with shorts
And finally the untucked, sleeves-rolled oxford accessorized with bicycle:

It's great to see how the guys from ivy-style.com make the comparison between the GANT Rugger Spring 10 collection and a book made in the 60's by a Japanese photographer. The rest of the story you can read for yourself on www.ivy-style.com

FISHERMAN'S SWEATER

The origins of the fisherman’s sweater are to be found in Brittany. It is from there that merchants left during the 18th century to travel to England for the sale of their onions. These merchants wore an item of clothing that made them recognizable from a distance. The French expression "marchand d’ail" (garlic merchant) which is what these people were called, became in everyday speech "chandail" referring to this item of clothing. Highly practical, very easy to put on as a result of buttons on the side, and in unwashed sheep wool. Several variants appeared : colors like red, white, striped, but it should be remembered that, in the Navy, the single colored sweater was reserved for officers, and the striped variety for sailors. In the French Navy, young recruits wear a striped tee-shirt during their three month onboard training period. Originally reserved for professional purposes, the Fisherman’s sweater has now become, like jeans, a 20th century fashionable clothing item. These original Fisherman's sweaters are from a French brand called Saint James.

MONDAY BOOK MANIA

Riverside Raceway 1959 in a Porsche Speedster 1958
Ferrari Lusso 1963
Chevy V-8 powered Jeep
Hudson Wasp 1952 and asics sneaker
Yellow Ford 1957 and blue/white Ford 1968
Porsche 917S Le Mans 1970

Monday book mania skipped one week but comes back wit a book all about an ICON Mr. Steve McQueen. He made movies best remembered for their wild car chases, mad motorcycle dashes, and hair-raising races, but no one forgets the man at the wheel--Steve McQueen, the King of Cool. No other Hollywood star has been so closely linked with cars and bikes. It is this connection that McQueens Machines explores, giving readers a close-up look at the cars and motorcycles McQueen drove in movies, those he owned, and others he raced. From the 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback he drove in Bullitt (in the greatest car chase of all time) to his Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in The Thomas Crown Affair, from the Triumph motorcycle of The Great Escape to the Gulf-Porsche 917K he actually raced in Le Mans, the cars and bikes that McQueen made famous in films make another appearance here. The book also features the cars, motorcycles, and even airplanes that McQueen owned over the years.
