MONDAY BOOK MANIA

Last week I wrote about American Fashion Designers, today in the spotlight Rin Tanaka's My Freedamn! 8.
This issue features over 600 vintage fashion items from the wonderful world of 1960s pop fashions. This book covers a wide variety of fashions (many quite rare) from the 1960s: Aloha shirts & surf T-shirts, 1950s-1960s motorcycle fashions & motorcycle helmets, 1960s car club jackets & event T-shirts, Japan tour jackets from the Vietnam War era, Ed Roth fashions, Easy Rider fashions, Schwinn Bicycles, and much more! Enjoy humorous fashions, manufactured by cool American people in the 1960s. Check out his site for more books. http://www.myfreedamn.com/

BORN IN THE USA?

The Canadian worldchampion badminton player Jack Purcell designed a canvas and rubber badminton sneaker for the B.F. Goodrich Company in 1935. He designed the shoe to provide more protection and suport on badminton courts. In 1970s, Converse purchased the trademark rights to Jack Purcell sneakers. Converse "Jack Purcells" are still very popular more for their "vintage fashion" appeal than for playing badminton. Check out how great they look at Icons like James Dean and Bruce Springsteen. For sure they throwed the shoebox away.

SAILOR'S BLUEPACK

David Bowie sings in Come and Buy my Toys:
"You shall own a chambray shirt, you shall work your father's land. But now you shall play in the market square till you be a man."

This a perfect example of evolution which started as a workshirt ends up in fashion. You can wear it sporty on  a "chino" or all tied up with a knitted tie under a "blazer" He that's cool also the chino and the blazer started as workgear. To be continued....
