RRL EAST HAMPTON

The Double RL Store in East Hampton opened in June 2008. It's located on Main Street in a historic barn. The collection on these pictures are almost 2 years old, but they still work for me! I love to see how Americana and design is mixed into this store. It is not just going to a shop to buy a shirt, it's a experience, and at the end of the day you also bought a shirt. FRANK MUYTJENS FOR J.CREW FALL 10

Frank Muytjens

J.Crew: Frank Muytjens
Took the reins: 2008, New York

The aesthetic: When Muytjens took over J.Crew two years ago, the clothes were almost comically preppy. So he threw out the clownish colors, tailored the fit, and introduced a military edge.
Early days: "I went to an arts academy in Holland before coming to New York, where I worked at Ralph Lauren before coming to J.Crew."

What I wore as a kid: "Levi's 501s. All the time."
Going boutique: "When J.Crew opened the Liquor Store men's shop in Tribeca in 2008, it was the perfect showcase for other stuff all the guys on the design team wore. We brought in Baracuta, Levi's, Ray-Ban, Selima, Thomas Mason, Timex. It was our way of filling voids in a guy's wardrobe with the labels that do it best.
Place that inspires me: "Big Sur. Edward Weston took a lot of photographs there; Jack Kerouac stayed there and wrote Big Sur."
Time that inspires me: "1980s London. I still listen to the Smiths, and there were magazines like The Face, Blitz, Arena, and i-D, with all the street pictures. To me, that was The Sartorialist in the '80s." (text from GQ.com site)

CAULFIELD PREPARATORY FALL 10

The brand launched their first collection in Fall 2009. This year Vincent Flumiani was one of the six finalists with Caulfield Prep. for "Best New Menswear Designer of the year 2010".

LET'S GET "HANKY" PANKY

A hanky can  give your outfit just that little twist that makes it more interesting. Whether you use a plain white one or a "funky" hanky. You can wear it in a sporty blazer or a classic suit.
See the link how to fold your hanky in different ways.

EAST MEETS WEST

After wondering what happend to the wall, I entered a shopping experience on 600 Broadway. Hollister is the "little brother" of Abercrombie & Fitch. The collection is inspired by the surfers from the coast of California. The store has his own Huntington Pier with live footage of the sea. Get inspired by the way the Hollister company lift the level on entertaining during shopping.

VANISHING AMERICANA

At the corner of Houston and Broadway something sad happened last year. When Hollister bought the building on that corner, they also bought some gallons of brown paint. At that moment a New York icon disappeared after being there for over 15 years.

DUCK BOOT

Some snow and a Fashion Week in New York make guys wearing their Duck Boots. The original was invented by LL Bean a hunter and a fisherman from Maine. He developed a waterproof boot, a combination of lightweight leather uppers and rubber bottoms, which he sold to hunters.

50'S DESIGN DESK

This 50's design, is a Torck desk created for Maison Bastin in Chenee, Belgium. I saw this desk in the showroom of Gant Rugger in Holland and it's such a nice design. The history of the company Torck goes back to 1911, when Emiel Torck bought a baby buggy company in Deinze, Belgium. Until the war they where know for these buggies, after the war they also produced furniture like the desk which is a rare find for collectors with the name "Bastin".

THREE TIMES IN A ROW, MICHAEL BASTIAN

THE NEXT DAY....

Just the day after the successfull presentation of the Gant by Michael Bastian collection. He had to present his own collection at Exit Art on 10th Ave. And as you can see the man is creative enough to make 2 collections and if you then know that there are only 2 other people working with him we have to give them a standing ovation!! If you can't get enough of it just check www.gq.com/fashion-shows/brief/F2010MEN-MBMEN
