RAW AS SILK

shantung | sh anˈtə ng |
A tie fabric spun from tussore silk with random irregularities in the surface texture.
Origin: late 19th cent. from Shangtung, China (see Shandong, where it orginally was made).

These beautiful ties are made by Drake's London from raw spun "shantung" silk. The natural slub in the silk gives a great texture to the tie. These Old School Stripe ties are handmade in England from 100% silk and are 7cm wide with a hand rolled hem and blade ends. I think these kind of raw spun silk ties can ad a certain laid back feeling to your suit or even to your blazer and kaki's.

J.CREW SPRING/SUMMER 2011

Bold on the Street posted some great pics of the J.Crew Spring/Summer 2011, less color more in the way of Mr. Freedom and the Japanese designers would do. Great Toggle coat and tote bag.

YOU HAVE TO EARN YOUR STRIPES

Junya Watanabe, the Japanese designer,  showed his Spring Summer collection last week in Paris. The inspiration for his collection comes from a regatta day at the Williamsburg Yacht Club. These are classic French sailing clothes (boat shirts, white pants, blazers) given a be-boppy kick in the pant. A jolt of American mid-century hipster attitude that results in white bucks paired with cropped blazers, and more. (text + pics by GQ)
