Love 'em or hate 'em, whales pants are a cornerstone of the preppy American experience. The first embroidered pants where designed with whales. Where exactly the whale pant was born is unknown, for a long time, whale pants were a niche product. But in the early 1980's the official preppy handbook comes out and changed the history of haberdashery. History was sealed, whale pants are now part of the preppy fashion.
